	** Nitrification is the process of taking Ammonium (NH4+), made available in the soil by nitrogen fixing bacteria and the decomposers (aerobic fungi and bacteria), Nitrifying bacteria then process this ammonium into Nitrites (NO2-), the nitrifying bacteria then convert the Nitrites into Nitrates (NO3-), the nitrates are then assimilated ( taken up by ) the banana plants for use in the production of plant proteins, for the growth and production of bananas.
